Fun, funky, eclectic and luxurious, a combination you normally only expect in Athens or on islands like Mykonos. But you can also find it in the mountains of Pierias. Semeli Resort was the initiative of local people who figured they’d do something different, and did so with flair. Made out of natural stone and wood, the building fits in well with the landscape. Inside though, it’s wild: Philip Starck and Guy Laroche furniture mixed with antique and ethnic pieces, dining room tables and chairs in at least 6 different styles, frilly mirrors on the stone walls, modern chandeliers dangling from wooden beams. The effect is almost shocking, but it works! Bedrooms are more toned down (with some off-beat touches) and superbly comfortable. Add to all this very good service, a delicious breakfast, and truly excellent lunches and dinner (creative Mediterranean and local cuisine) and you have yourself some very good reasons for a little mountain escape.
